Verification and AML
Why do we verify players?
- To make sure every player is at least 19.
- To make sure each account belongs to a real person using their own details.
- To confirm you are in Canada, in a region where play is legal.
- To stop fraud, stolen payment methods and money laundering.
- To protect self-excluded players from reopening accounts.
We open accounts only for players located where online casino play is lawful under local law. Each account has to satisfy Canadian rules on verifying age, confirming identity and stopping money laundering.
Which records are retained, and what has to be reported?
- We keep identity documents, check results and transaction records for the period Canadian law requires after an account closes.
- We report large cash-equivalent transactions and suspicious activity to the Canadian authorities as the law requires.
- The law prohibits us from letting players know when a report about them has been filed.
How do you check identity and age, and which documents are needed?
When you sign up, we use trusted databases to verify three details: your birth date, your legal name in full and your home address. Each time you make a deposit, we run a geolocation check to verify where you are. If our automated checks cannot verify your identity, we will ask you to provide documents:
- Photo identification: your driver's licence, your valid passport or an ID card with photo issued by your province, with your whole face clearly visible.
- Address: a document from recent months, such as a utility bill, a bank statement or a letter from government, that shows your residential address and full name.
- Payment method: for cards, a photo of the front showing the card with its middle numbers hidden; for Neteller, Instadebit or online banking, a screenshot of the account clearly displaying your name.
Each document should be a sharp, full colour image with all four edges in view. Upload them through your account area or email them to [email protected].
Do you screen for public office holders and sanctions?
- We screen each account against lists of politically exposed persons, covering their family members and close associates too.
- We also check national and international sanctions lists.
- A match is not grounds for refusal, though the account will be subject to enhanced checks and closer monitoring.
- We cannot provide service to anyone subject to applicable sanctions.
Is verification a one-time check?
No. Monitoring continues while an account remains open. Unusual deposit patterns, sudden changes in stake size, deposits followed by withdrawals with almost no play, or changes to personal details may trigger further checks. Checks may also be repeated when documents expire.
In what situations could we request details on where my funds come from?
Where deposit levels or patterns call for it, we request evidence of the source of the money you play with. Suitable documents include:
- Your latest payslips or an employer letter.
- Bank statements that show salary or business income.
- Records of a property sale, inheritance or investment.
- Tax documents.
Deposits and withdrawals can be paused until we are satisfied.
What happens if verification fails?
- Withdrawals are held until checks are complete.
- Deposits and play can be suspended.
- Accounts are closed if they cannot be verified, if the holder is under 19, or if they use false or stolen details.
- If permitted by local law, we refund deposits through the method used to make them. Every winning is forfeited on accounts opened by a minor or using false details.
- Where required, we report the activity to the authorities.
